Beverly A. Tate
Beverly Tate


Beverly A. Tate is an educator with extensive experience at various levels of public teaching.  She taught in the English departments at Los Angeles Unified School District's El Camino, Chatsworth, and Granada Hills high schools.  Selected and honored as a Mentor teacher, a Master Teacher, and a Fellow of the Academic Council of Learned Societies, Beverly taught literature, composition, and in a humanities block in LAUSD.

Since 1996, she has been a professor in the English Division at Pasadena City Collge, teaching courses in African American literature, intercultural communication, and freshman and developmental composition. In addition to her commitment to teaching, Professor Tate has also served as acting dean of the English Division; coordinator of the English Division; the coordinator of the English Division's adjunct professors; the lead consultant for the Writers Across the Curriculum program; and the chair of the Literature Committee.  Presently, Professor Tate is the interim Division Dean/Athletic Director for the Kinesiology, Health, and Athletics Division. Involved in campus-wide activities, she also coordinated the College Diversity Initiative. In this capacity, Professor Tate organized and facilitated numerous lectures, presentations, and panel discussions, including those of  Walter Mosley, Michael Eric Cyson, Luis J. Rodriguez, Quincy Troupe, Mike Rose, Renford Reese, and Bakari Kitwana's Rap Sessions Tour, to name some.

Active in community outreach, Beverly worked with various organizations and groups. She is an active board member of MPYD, the Village Nation in Los Angeles, and the Tia Chucha Cafe and Cultural Center in Sylmar.
