Johnie M. Driver
Mr. Johnie M. Driver is a member of the Mentoring & Partnership for Youth Development board and serves as the treasurer of the organization. He has been a part of MPYD since its inception. He served originally as the Board secretary and became treasurer after MPYD's first Treasurer moved from this area. Mr. Driver has two boys assigned to him as mentees.
Johnie is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He began his employment at Sperry Utah in Salt Lake City. After two years, he transferred to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena where he worked for 33 years in mission analysis and design for exploring comets, asteroids, and outer planet missions. Johnie retired from JPL in 1999.
Johnie began his involvement with John Muir High School when his daughter was a Muir student, and has continued serving the school after her graduation. He has worked with the PTA, a school site council, and a school reorganization committee. He was co-chair of a principal selection committee seeking community input for choosing a new principal at Muir.
Johnie is a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church where he serves on the deacon and trustee Boards, having served as chairman of both. He presently serves as a Sunday school teacher for one of the adult classes, and in the past served as superintendent of the Sunday school.
Johnie has four adult children – two sons and two daughters – that are all gainfully employed. He is married to Bernetta Driver – his wife of six years after his first wife deceased. They currently reside in Altadena.
