Tecumseh Shackelford
Tecumseh Shackelford

Tecumseh Shackelford is a founding member of the Mentoring & Partnership for Youth Development.  Known affectionately as “Shack” by family, friends, and students, Tecumseh responded to a call from the then-principal at John Muir High School to help support struggling male students.  The outcome was the MPYD program, which continues to help young men at Muir through academic tutoring and development of effective life skills.

In 1998, Tecumseh retired from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power after 31 years of service.  He immediately began investing in the Altadena and Pasadena communities by cofounding the Windsor Arroyo Neighborhood Association (WANA).  Under his leadership, WANA led the successful fight to shut down the old Rose Bowl Motel, which had become a site for criminal activities.  Through his work with WANA, Tecumseh is involved in the redevelopment of West Altadena and northwest Pasadena.

As a member of the Lincoln Avenue Task Force, he has worked for the beautification of businesses along the Lincoln Avenue corridor. His community development involvement record includes crime reduction, public education improvement, traffic signage, and Hahamonga Watershed protection.

In June 2008, voters of Census Tract 4610 selected Tecumseh to represent them on the Altadena Town Council.  He is an officer of the Town Council, serving as the Treasurer, and is a member of the Land Use Committee.

Tecumseh has been recognized by the Altadena and Pasadena civic and business communities for the contributions he has made.  The Altadena Chamber of Commerce named him the 2003 “Citizen of the Year.”  He served as the Community Grand Marshal of 2007 Black History Parade.
