Guest Speaker: Val Zavala, TV journalist and executive producer

This week, we had the honor of hosting Val Zavala, former TV journalist and executive producer, and Dr. Gilbert Walton from the 710 Restorative Justice Coalition. Both brought powerful insights and left a lasting impression on our young men.

Ms. Zavala shared her journey through journalism, highlighting the importance of media literacy in today’s digital age. She stressed that with AI and misinformation on the rise, it’s crucial to think critically and verify facts using trusted, legacy media sources.

Dr. Walton spoke on the historical impact of the 710 Freeway expansion, which deeply affected communities of color in Pasadena. His organization is working to help residents reclaim their voice, restore neighborhoods, and hold the city accountable for past injustices.
